Visiting Grenoble - France

Hello all,

welcome to my post on Grenoble.  I hope you can find useful the details i am providing.
I had the chance to visit the city in 2010. The city is not very big but it is nice to see it during a 1-2 day trip.

Location: I have stayed at Citea Aparthotels: http://www.citea.com/en/apparthotels/grenoble
It is an OK-ish hotel. The good thing about it is that it has a small kitchenette with fridge, oven, and lots of other stuff. So you can cook if you do not want to spend lots of money by eating out.
Another good thing about this hotel is the fact that it is very close to a big shopping center where you can find everything you want, including a Carrefour supermarket. So, overall this hotel has + and - points, it is not very central but because you have a tram station just in front of the hotel you can go basically wherever you want in the city.

I arrived in the city by coming first in Lyon, and from the airport i took the shuttle bus that leaves every hour to Grenoble. Final destination is the train station in Grenoble. From there in order to arrive at hotel you can take the tramway line A in direction Echiroles/Fontaine- La poya , stop is Grand`Place.

Sightseeing: A must see is of course, Bastille.
The easiest way to get there is to get the "bubble" cable car near Jardins de Ville in the city center. You can see the cable cars from all over the city, so it is very easy to find them.
The view is very nice, you pass over the river and can see much of the town. Up there you can find a souvenir shop, a restaurant and a nice museum with interesting information regarding the mountain military troops.
You can walk in several directions from there. One suggestion, is, if the weather allows it, to get down in the city by foot. You will pass near another nice museum called Dauphinois http://www.musee-dauphinois.fr/643-venir-au-musee.htm#par27557 .

Upon coming down the hill, you can find good restaurants on both sides of the river so pick your choice.

There are other museums in Grenoble which are worth a visit if you are into this activity: Musee de Grenoble, Museum d`histoire Naturelle, Musee Stendhal, Musee de l`Ancien Eveche.
At this last museum i saw a very interesting photo exhibition.

The Musee de l`Ancien Eveche is situated quite close to the cathedral. Inside you can find an archeological site from 3rd and 4th century. The entrance is free of charge!

This can take you one day. In the evening try one of the restaurants from the city center and try the specialties. One advice: do not miss the desserts and the wine.

On the second day you can have a relaxing walk through parc Paul Mistral.
From there you can easily arrive to Grenoble Football Stadium.

Also on your list should be Cathedral de Notre Dame.
In the winter, if you are a fan of winter sports, there are many places close to Grenoble for these activities. Just go to the bus station and follow the kids with snowboards and sky equipment:)
